Wii won’t save you

September 15, 2008

A editorial from The Daily Texan:

I have come face-to-face with the newest addition to society’s downfall — “Wii Fit.”

The other day I was talking to my roommate about how I intended to spend my weekend outside — walking my dog, swimming, etc. — because the weather was so nice. My roommate interjected to tell me that she, too, had been exercising lately. She and her boyfriend had recently purchased “Wii Fit” together. “You can do yoga or walking, and it’s great because you can just switch the TV screen to something you want to watch and the program will time you,” she said.

I have to say I do agree with the article on the fact that Wii Fit shouldn’t replace outdoor activites, but I don’t think it’s catering to laziness. No, Wii Fit is a tool, that when used properly and in conjuction with other tools, can provide an evolved experience that compliments your daily lifestyle. Now, if you were lazy to begin with, it’s unique because the game can even fit within that lifestyle, and perhaps take you out of your rut.
